The Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics (until September 1992, "Applied Mathematics"), established on the basis of the departments of "Applied Mathematics", "Mathematical Physics Equations" and "Theoretical Mechanics" of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics and two groups of students, has developed and become one of the leading faculties of the university. Since its establishment, the faculty has trained personnel in the specialties of "Applied Mathematics", and since 1991 - "Economic Cybernetics". Since 2009, personnel have been trained in the specialties of "Computer Science" and "Informatics Teaching". Since 2021, personnel have been trained in the specialty of "Information Security".
The faculty was successively headed by the late associate professor Mustafa Ali oglu Valiyev (1972-1988), the late academician Mirabbas Goyja oglu Gasimov (1989), the late professor Rizvan Teymur oglu Pashayev (1989-1999, 2005-2007), full member of ANAS, professor Yusif Abulfat oglu Mammadov (2000-2004), full member of ANAS, professor Mahammad Farman oglu Mehdiyev (2008-2024).
