International cooperation

The faculty has relations with many scientific and educational institutions located in the former USSR. Among them are Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Rostov, Kiev, Belarus, Tbilisi, Riga State Universities, Steklov Institute of Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Mathematics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Institutes of Mathematics and Cybernetics of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, Ukrainian Institute of Problems of Mathematical Machines and Systems, Vinnitsa Technical University of Ukraine, Belarusian Institute of Mathematics and others. At the same time, there are relations with universities in the USA, Germany, Great Britain, Turkey, Iran.

The faculty regularly holds scientific seminars, and not only faculty employees, but also employees of other faculties and research institutions participate in these seminars.

Information about the Start-up and international projects implemented in 2019 at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics is as follows:

1. “Developing Master programmes in Mobile Applications and Game Design at partner universities” - MAGUS (Developing Master programmes in Mobile Applications and Game Design at partner universities) project within the framework of the KA2 activity of the Erasmus+ program. The aim of the project is to prepare a master's program in accordance with the Bologna provisions, improve the quality of information technologies, programming, education, and provide employment to Azerbaijani graduates. At the end of the project, it will be possible for teachers to acquire new knowledge and skills, students to acquire professional skills, and start personal startups. The project is implemented by Linköping University of Sweden and its partners Toomar Polytechnic Institute (Portugal), Derby University (United Kingdom), Tallinn University (Estonia), Southern Federal University (RF), Astrakhan State University (RF), Voronezh State University (RF), BSU (Azerbaijan), Baku Engineering University (Azerbaijan), Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (Azerbaijan). Baku State University has been involved in this project since 2018. The head of the project is academician Mahammad Mehdiyev.

2. Every May, the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics of Baku State University traditionally holds L. Zadeh Days, a competition of Startup Innovative projects prepared by students is held, and students of the faculty participate in this competition with innovative projects. The winning teams are awarded with valuable gifts by sponsors. Every week, the faculty holds a seminar on the preparation of Startup Innovative projects for students in the field of ICT. The seminar is headed by Fuad Gurbanov, senior lecturer of the Department of Information Technologies and Programming. As a result of this seminar, the projects prepared by students are submitted to international competitions. The innovative projects prepared by students are evaluated by a commission consisting of representatives of the labor market (SINAM, IDRAK, RISK) and teachers of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics, and one of these projects was awarded a silver medal at the international competition called Golden Byte held in Kiev.

3. In order to strengthen the relations between the state, science, education, business and civil society in the field of high technologies, the faculty, in addition to internal round tables, regularly holds round tables with the Institute of Information Technologies of ANAS for science and with the Sinam company for business. Elnur Seyidov, president of the Halal Booking company operating in England, a graduate of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics, and an Azerbaijani specialist, came to Baku at BSU in April 2019 and met with the students of the faculty. Currently, the faculty is cooperating with the Halal Booking company.
